Unplain in Claude
Unplain in Claude, even on your phone.
Connect once by signing in: no API key, no terminal. Then ask Claude for a designed, branded PDF on claude.ai, in the desktop app, or in the Claude app on iPhone and Android, and get the file back in the chat.
01Where it works
Add it once. Use it everywhere.
- Add it here
claude.ai
Add Unplain here once, in any browser, on a computer or on your phone.
- Add it here
Claude desktop app
Uses the same connectors as claude.ai. Add it in either, and it is in both.
- Just use it
Claude app on iPhone and Android
Nothing to set up. Unplain appears the next time you open the app after adding it.
02Setup
Three clicks, about a minute.
On a computer, or on claude.ai in your phone's browser. Works on the free plans of both Claude and Unplain.
- 1
Open Connect to AI
Sign in to Unplain (a free account is enough) and click Connect Claude. Claude opens its Add custom connector screen with Unplain already filled in. It notes that the link came from outside Claude: check the address is the one below, then click Add.
- 2
Allow access
Click Connect next to Unplain in Claude. Unplain shows what Claude will be able to do and which workspace it will use. Choose Allow access and you land back in Claude.
- 3
Ask for a PDF
In any chat, on any device. Claude asks before it uses an Unplain tool the first time; allow it. Connect to AI shows Connected once the connection is real.
The address Claude should show, and the one to paste if you add the connector by hand (Customize, Connectors, Add custom connector):
https://app.unplain.io/api/mcp 03On your phone
Your next PDF, from the Claude app.
Nothing to install on the phone and nothing to type into a terminal. The connector follows your Claude account.
Already added it on a computer?
Open the Claude app. Unplain is listed among your connectors the next time the app starts, and you can ask for a PDF straight away. If it is not there yet, close the app fully and open it again.
Only have your phone?
Open claude.ai in your phone's web browser, sign in, and follow the three steps there. Then switch to the Claude app. Claude's help notes that adding connectors inside the phone app itself is still in beta, so the browser is the reliable way in.
Downloading the PDF on a phone
Claude replies with a download link, valid for about an hour, and an editor link. Tap the first to open the PDF. The document stays saved in your Unplain account, so an expired link only means exporting again.
04Try it
Things to ask Claude.
Claude writes and decides the look; Unplain does the layout, the cover, the contents and the PDF. More prompts.

Claude says I have reached my connector limit
Claude Free includes one custom connector. Remove one you no longer use under Customize, Connectors on claude.ai, or use a paid Claude plan.
I do not see an option to add a custom connector
On Claude Team and Enterprise, an organization owner adds a custom connector for everyone first; members then connect their own Unplain account. Connect to AI has a link for owners.
Unplain is not in the Claude app on my phone
Make sure you are signed in to the same Claude account on the phone and on the computer where you added it, then close the app fully and open it again. Connectors added on the web reach the app when it next signs in.
Connect to AI still says Waiting
It only shows Connected once Claude has finished signing in to Unplain, so a click alone is not enough. Go back to Claude, click Connect next to Unplain and choose Allow access. If you clicked Cancel, start again from Connect Claude.
Claude used the wrong workspace
The workspace is chosen on Unplain's approval screen. Disconnect Claude on Connect to AI, connect again and pick the other workspace.
Using Claude Code instead? It can sign in the same way, or use a key: see Unplain for Claude Code. Everything Unplain can do once connected is on the Unplain MCP page.
06Questions
Claude questions, plain answers.
Can I use Unplain in the Claude app on my phone?
Yes. Add Unplain to Claude once, on claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app, and it is available in the Claude app on iPhone and Android the next time you open it. If you only have a phone, add it on claude.ai in your phone's web browser.
Do I need an API key or a terminal?
No. You sign in to Unplain from Claude and approve access, and that is the whole setup. API keys are only for clients like Claude Code and Codex, and even Claude Code can sign in instead.
Which Claude plans work?
All of them. Claude Free includes one custom connector, which can be Unplain. On Claude Team and Enterprise, an owner adds Unplain for the organization first, and each member then connects their own Unplain account.
Do I need a paid Unplain plan?
No. A free Unplain account can connect and export PDFs of up to 10 content pages with the Made with Unplain badge. Claude works within your Unplain plan exactly as the web app does, and can check your limits before it writes.
Does Unplain see my conversations with Claude?
No. Unplain only receives what Claude sends to its tools, such as the document text or a link to turn into a PDF. It never receives the conversation around it.
How do I disconnect Claude?
Open Connect to AI in your Unplain account and click Disconnect next to Claude. Claude loses access on its very next request, and your documents stay as they are. You can also remove the connector in Claude.
Does it work with ChatGPT on my phone?
Not yet. ChatGPT can connect to Unplain on Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, in a web browser, once a workspace admin adds it. The ChatGPT phone app cannot use custom apps yet.
